Iran War Disruptions Threaten Global Fertilizer Supply, Food Security at Risk

Food supplies across the world are facing dangers following disruptions to fertiliser production and transportation due to the Iran War.

According to the CEO of Yara, Svein Tore Holsether, due to the closure of Strait of Hormuz the shipments of  fertilizer are being disrupted. Approximately 500,000 tonnes of nitrogen fertilizer is currently not being produced, which may result in the loss of up to 10 billion meals globally per week.

Due to the low fertilizer usage , the crop yields  will also reduce up to 50% and that will mainly affect Asia, Africa, and Latin America.

Experts predict that farmers' expenses and declining crop yields will raise food prices globally this year. Countries in poverty will be the most likely to experience food shortages.
